Well done to everyone who helped out or came along, and thanks to the library for always making us so welcome.

The talk on bees by Helen Rimmer from FoE was excellent and we have established a good contact. Visitors to the TTC stall were interested , kids were engaged, and , sorry for the pun, but there was a real buzz in the library

Olive Tree?

Does anyone know where we can get hold of a decently priced, healthy potted olive tree, for us to use in the library for ideas/ wishes/ questions/ inspiration and consultation ?

They and we are ready to go, but need a tree !

Minutes and matters arising – volunteers and stuff needed

May TTC meeting followed by a fairly well attended (by recent standards) Green Drinks took place on May 3rd. Minutes can be found in Meetings section of website .

We have decided to give Beatherder a miss this year but attend the more homegrown micro festival Cloudspotting if there are enough people willing to help. Please express your interest if you are able to help out weekend 26-28 July (check out the website www.cloudspotting.org.uk)

For the childrens’ workshops we will be conducting some recycling/growing based activities

We need the following materials :

colourful plastic bags (clean) , straws( used ,washed ) yoghurt pots; some cardboard (cereal box thickness) cut into long leaf shapes if possible (about 15 cm by 7cm)

We also need to know whether people can help out at the Clitheroe food festival on August 10th as we have decided to share the cost of stall space with the Fair Trade group.

And finally we need you to start collecting/ saving ends of tins of paint for a graffiti project that we have lined up- emulsion okay but gloss better- it’s an outdoor project

Seed Swap Event: Transition Town Clitheroe and Clitheroe Garden Club will both have stalls at Clitheroe Library 10am till 3pm on Saturday 27th April.

Please bring along any seeds or plants you may have to spare and share!

Also, Helen Rimmer from Friends of the Earth will be giving a talk at 11am about their campaign to save Bees.

Clitheroe Library Seed Swap event – volunteer opportunity

On Saturday 27th April Clitheroe Library is hosting what has become an annual event: a seed swap, where gardeners/transitioners/ allotmenteers come together and offer information to the general public activities and seeds for swapping at the library.

We are trying to get a rota of helpers for the day, so if you can offer an hour or two ( between 10am and 4pm) to be at our stand inside the library and chat to people please email me:

New volunteering opportunity at Clitheroe community garden initiative

A few months back TTC was approached by Help Direct to help in the setting up of a small garden at 1 Windemere Avenue in Clitheroe.

I went to meet with the project, and learnt that this is a project where some of the residents are keen to spice up their back garden. A couple of suggestions were made. First we agreed on planting an Apple tree in the front garden overlooking the road. The second was that 2 raised beds could be placed in the back garden. A preference for recycled plastic sleepers was made, so I am in the process of costing that up. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have already bought an Apple tree for them, which needs planting, and the recycled plastic beds need buying and compost ordering from the council. Once this is done, we will need some able bodied volunteers to fill up the beds with wheelbarrows, etc.
